Great British Beef Week 2020

Celebrating the 10th year of Great British Beef Week

Coinciding with St. George's Day this year is the start of Great British Beef Week, the annual celebration of British beef, organised by 'Ladies in Beef' AND now in its tenth year.

There's a whole host of reasons to champion British beef this April, and it's an ideal opportunity for food businesses everywhere to remind customers about the finest quality of meat they’re serving. Let’s celebrate the nation’s favourite red meat!

Despite the negative press, British beef production is actually among the most sustainable in the world, with a carbon footprint around half the average. Almost half of UK cattle is managed on mountains, moorlands, marshlands and wetland meadows, meaning all that grassland for grazing increases the absorption of carbon from the atmosphere.

Beef is also a versatile and nutritionally valuable ingredient when consumed as part of a balanced diet, given that it is naturally rich in protein. So there's plenty of benefits of British Beef to share with your customers!

At J. Buckland, we have a fantastic range of beef products, worth applauding at any time of year. Our SALSA accreditation offers reassurance to our customers (and yours!) that all our beef is produced to first-class food manufacturing standards. Read on for some of our latest tips on beef…

Breakfast ideas for bacon offcuts

For cafes or canteens serving up eggs in the morning – or even in an all-day breakfast – bacon offcuts could be used as an upgrade option to add something special to your scramble!

Bacon offcuts also work well as an extra in:

  • Omelettes
  • Egg and potato hash
  • Savoury muffins

We can supply you with fresh eggs in a variety of quantities, delivered safely to your door. For your convenience, we also sell pre-prepared foods such as savoury breakfast muffins and frozen easy-to-cook omelettes - why not purchase and personalise by simply sprinkling over with your own bacon offcuts topping?

Lunch ideas for bacon offcuts

Bacon and eggs might be the power combination of the breakfast plate, but bacon offcuts really come into their own when combined with potato or pastry at lunchtime.

We like using bacon offcuts for:

  • Jacket potato toppings
  • Bacon and cheese potato skins
    Bacon and potato rostis
  • All kinds of soup
  • Quiche
  • Crispy bacon bits as a salad/cheese on toast topping

We supply frozen jacket potatos and hash browns for you to easily partner with our bacon offcuts, as well as shortcrust pastry to prepare a bacon-starring quiche Lorraine! If you prefer, purchase one of our delicious ready-made quiches and personalise by sprinkling over your own bacon offcuts.

Dinner ideas for bacon offcuts

Just like our smoked pancettabacon offcuts can be used as a great addition to pasta dishes for the dinner service. We’re thinking a classic creamy carbonara, or even added to a tomato pasta bake for a little extra flavour!

Try adding bacon offcuts to:

  • A ‘meat-feast’ style pizza
  • Potato side dishes (‘loaded’ fries or a potato bake)
  • Irish style Savoy cabbage, bacon and potatoes
  • Bacon, potato and onion hot pot
  • Scallops or seafood chowder
  • Bacon and chicken fajitas

Of course, no pasta dish would be complete without cheese – browse our great selection of exceptional quality cheeses here. We even have pre-grated or pre-sliced varieties for your convenience.
